Was bedeutet Regelversorgung konkret?

My name is Maria Meiners, and I am a health economist and business administrator specialized in dental billing and practice management (DAISY Institute).

I am particularly passionate about the intersection of dentistry, economics, and patient transparency. A dental practice is not only a medical environment – it is also embedded in a complex insurance and reimbursement system. This is where I see my professional responsibility.

In my daily work, I deal with questions such as:

How does billing work for patients with statutory insurance and additional private coverage?

What exactly does “standard care” (Regelversorgung) mean?

How is the fixed subsidy (Festzuschuss) calculated?

When does a treatment qualify as an “alternative treatment,” and why must patients apply for the subsidy themselves in such cases?

Many patients understandably feel overwhelmed by the German dental insurance system. Terms such as standard care, fixed subsidy, direct reimbursement, or supplementary insurance are not self-explanatory – yet they can have significant financial implications. My goal is to make these structures understandable and transparent.

I focus on explaining complex processes clearly, structuring workflows efficiently, and guiding both our clinical team and our patients safely through the billing system. This also includes drawing attention to potential pitfalls such as waiting periods, reimbursement limits, contract exclusions, or required health assessments in supplementary insurance policies.

Improving patient education is especially important to me. Digital tools such as informational videos or QR codes can help make insurance-specific information accessible and easy to understand. Because high-quality medical care also requires transparent financial communication.

My aim is to bring together medical excellence and economic clarity – with structure, transparency, and a strong focus on patient needs.
